KNIGHTS OF ST. JOHN INTERNATIONAL COMMANDERY NO. 791 AND ST. APOLLONIA LADIES AUXILIARY NO. 668 CELEBRATE 13TH ANNUAL JOINT THANKSGIVING

The Knights of St. John International Commandery No. 791 of St. Luke’s
Parish, together with the St. Apollonia Ladies Auxiliary No. 668, marked
their 13th annual joint Thanksgiving with a vibrant celebration on Sunday,
8 February 2026.
The event, which saw the participation of Knights and Ladies from other
Commanderies and Auxiliaries across the Freetown Makeni Grand
Commandery and Ladies Auxiliary, was held under the theme: “Our
Christian mission to be salt of the earth and light of the world.”


The Knights of St. John International Commandery No. 791 of St. Luke’s
Parish, together with the St. Apollonia Ladies Auxiliary No. 668, marked
their 13th annual joint Thanksgiving with a vibrant celebration on Sunday,
8 February 2026.
The event, which saw the participation of Knights and Ladies from other
Commanderies and Auxiliaries across the Freetown Makeni Grand
Commandery and Ladies Auxiliary, was held under the theme: “Our
Christian mission to be salt of the earth and light of the world.”
In his opening remarks, Worthy President of Commandery No. 791, Capt.
George S. Songu, extended a warm welcome to brothers, sisters, and
worshippers. He emphasized that the gathering was not only a celebration
but also a reaffirmation of their shared commitment to living out their
Christian faith.
Delivering the homily, Rev. Fr. Patrick Lagen George reflected on the theme
for the mass. He explained the historical significance of salt as a valued
commodity in ancient times, particularly among the Romans, and
highlighted its symbolic role in Christian life. He also explained the symbolic
importance of light, which dispels darkness and illuminates, noting that
Jesus used these metaphors to underscore the vital role of Christians in the
world. He urged all knights and ladies to serve as salt and light within the
church and the wider community. He ended up his homily by reflecting on
the values of knights and their role in serving the church which is rooted in
the virtues of faith, service Chivalry.
